What seemed to be impossible again in this lifetime of music is one step away from
becoming a reality. After years of fighting, AB Quintanilla & Cruz Martinez, founder
and ex-leaders of the Kumbia Kings have reconciled their differences and are even
considering sharing the same stage together again.
It was in 2006 when both talented vocalists gave end to their work and friendship.
Since this time, it was impossible for AB & Cruz to be in the same room much less talk to
each other.
The news of the reconciliation started in May of this year when both of them ran into each
other in the streets of Miami and at the official site of Televisa Espectáculos.
According to Mexican Journalist, Mara Patricia Castañeda, this run in seems to be the point of their rekindled friendship as she witnessed a
conversation between AB & Cruz.
"Que Onda?" translated to "Whats up? were their first words that broke the ice between them and brought an end to their feud and hope to
their friendship. A friendship that both have had since their youth.
"We had some drinks and what happened in the past is the past. I think there are much more important things to focus on and negative
things aren't an importance. It was a good thing to make peace with Cruz and leave everything in the past." Quintanilla stated.
According to Castañeda who was with AB & Cruz, "Like great friends, they didn't require an apology but offered forgiveness."
Cruz Martinez commented; "When I met AB I was 16 and he was 18. Our reconciliation is something that is necessary for both of us. The
truth is that after this I felt a great relief and everything that happened in the past is left behind. We are focusing on positive energy and
bringing happiness to our fans."
The leaders of Kumbia All Starz (AB Quintanilla) and Los Súper Reyes (Cruz Martínez) will not only smooth out their friendship but stage
differences. They announced that they will be performing together again along with their formed groups.
In regards to the dispute over the rights to the Kumbia Kings name, AB stated that things had been settled and Cruz is the owner in Mexico
and AB in the United States.
"I learned a lot from this experience. It helped me grow and mature like any other person who witnessed our story. We were both wrong and
the difference between us and the public was that your fights are in private and ours were public. I was wrong to let others come between us,
instead of investigating and talking directly to Cruz." confessed Quintanilla.
A Come back without Pee Wee?
On the other side, Pee Wee, who was the main star of Los Kumbia Kings, reacted to the news of his ex-band members reunion and stated; "I
didn't think it was a possibility but then I saw it on TV. Its hard to believe they made peace because they had serious problems. I don't know
if this is really going to happen."
Eventhough, AB & Cruz have announced the Kumbia Kings reunion, Pee Wee dismissed the possibility of ever sharing a stage with both
because of his own success. Pee Wee stated; "The truth is I am concentrated in my own thing with Los Camaleones which has been a great
success for me. My CD, thanks to God, has been accepted very well by the public. I am concentrated on my own music. What happened,
happened and its the past."
